EJAM launched in Ulaanbaatar with a tone that matches how the project will work
On Monday, October 6, 2025, EJAM was officially launched at the Shangri-La Hotel in Ulaanbaatar. It was a warm, energetic evening, but it was not ceremonial for its own sake. The atmosphere reflected something intentional about EJAM: this project is built on relationships, trust, and the habit of institutions working together in a steady, practical way.
The launch brought together leaders from Mongolia's justice institutions, representatives from Parliament and the Ministry of Justice, civil society and academia, and members of the diplomatic and donor community. Canada's Ambassador to Mongolia, Stephen Doust, spoke about access to justice as something people experience in their daily lives, and about why fair, independent courts matter to dignity, equality, and confidence in public institutions.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Mongolia, D. Ganzorig, also delivered a special address to participants, emphasizing the importance of sustained cooperation across institutions and the value of building durable, practical partnerships.
The remarks were matched by action. During the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Errolyn Humphreys signed Memoranda of Understanding with EJAM's Mongolian partners: the Judicial General Council, the Judicial Disciplinary Committee, the Judicial Academy, the Judges Association, the Supreme Court of Mongolia, and the Legal Innovation NGO. In a single moment, the project moved from an idea to a set of clear institutional commitments.
The rest of the evening was designed to do what EJAM will do over the next five years: create space for real conversation across institutions. Traditional Mongolian music, a standing reception, and time for informal exchanges allowed people who do not always sit at the same table to connect, compare perspectives, and start building a shared understanding. That early human groundwork matters. In a project that depends on peer-to-peer cooperation and sustained coordination, the tone is not decoration. It is part of the method.
